Mens Titanium Watches
Just several decades old since it was first manufactured, mens titanium watches have already built a reputation of durability and sophistication. Titanium in itself is a tough corrosion resistant metal with a silver color. When combined with other elements, this metal yields lightweight alloys that has endless usefulness that includes watch manufacturing among others.
The first time titanium was used in the manufacturing of watches was in 1978 by the International Watch Co. (IWC) in Schaffhausen, Switzerland that was then partly owned by Ferdinand Porsche. It was IWC that completed the process of polishing titanium for watch manufacturing. And, despite the fact that production of the watches was not a simple process, the manufacturing of men’s titanium watches was a success.
At the time, the first chronograph watch in titanium that was designed by Porsche was sold for $1300 only. The price was already a big bargain back then, taking into account the engineering, design and manufacturing advancement involved. Today, men’s titanium watches are manufactured by many watch companies. Here to name a few are: Boccia, Citizen, Rolex, MH Bertucci, Seiko and Skagen.
The Citizen Watch Company is the largest manufacturer of mens titanium watches worldwide. Citizen and the earlier-mentioned manufacturers use titanium in manufacturing most of their sports and diver’s watches, as well as some of their luxury watch models. They prefer to use titanium because the material is stronger by 30% than steel, but lighter by 50%. It is hypoallergenic and corrosion resistant. However, titanium can scratch and stain easily. Hence Citizen employs glass multi-layering coating to make the watches scratch resistant.
The sports and dive titanium watch models are most sold in the market. Their robustness and lightweight characteristic play a major reason for their popularity, not to mention their hypoallergenic feature that has no adverse reaction to skin and provides a comfortable feel even if the skin perspires.
The prices of men’s titanium watches start at around $100 (if you shop at the right place) and could reach to as much as thousands of dollars. Users of titanium watches are increasing daily. In fact, the watch industry predicts a significant increase of daily users in the next 20 years.
